Surf Lessons Las Plamas Gran CanariaCome surfing right in the heart of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Learn how to surf or improve your surf skills taking one or more days of surf school during your holidays in the Canary Islands.

Daily surf classes are imparted at Las Canteras and La Cicer beach just 1 minute walk from Las Canteras promenade where most Hotels, apartments and tourism complexes are.

You can join our school for as many days you wish starting any day of the week. For best results we recommend our complete surf course (5 days/15h). The are daily group or private classes for all levels:

LEVEL 0 | Initiation Surf Course Las Palmas
1 day includes:

  • 3 hours of surf lessons in Las Canteras beach (usually from 10h00 to 13h00 - including picnic break)
  • All surf equipment during classes (surf board, wetsuit, rash guard)
  • Picnic snack on the beach (fruit and water)
  • Certified surf instructors (FES)
  • Low student/instructor ratio - Maximum 6 students per instructor
  • Insurance during classes (civil liability and personal accidents)
  • Quicksilver or Roxy student's card (only for courses of 5 days or more)
  • Use of the school’s facilities (lockers, toilets, showers, …)
  • Spanish and English spoken
  • Lots of surf, fun & tan!

You can start surf lessons any day of the week and for any number of days. If you wish you can take a break in between surf course days

Pick up/drop off from hotels is included for groups of 4 or more people, but most hotels/apartments are within walking distance to our Surf School in Las Palmas.

LEVEL 1 & 2 | Beginner & Intermediate Surf Course
1 day includes:

  • 3 hours of surf lessons in Las Canteras beach (usually from 10h00 to 13h00 - including picnic break)
  • Transfers to other spots if conditions are not optimal locally
  • All surf equipment during classes (surf board, wetsuit, rash guard)
  • Picnic snack on the beach (fruit and water)
  • Certified surf instructors (FES)
  • Low student/instructor ratio - Maximum 5 students per instructor
  • Insurance during classes (civil liability and personal accidents)
  • Quicksilver or Roxy student's card (only 5 days or more)
  • Use of the school’s facilities (lockers, toilets, showers, …)
  • Spanish and English spoken
  • Lots of surf, fun & tan!

The intermediate classes are intended for intermediate and improver level surfers who want to start surfing unbroken waves ("green waves") or improve their level and skills with the help of an instructor. In order to join this level participants must have had a introductory course and should be able to paddle, stand up on the board without difficulty and begin to cross waves.

LEVEL 3 | Advanced Surfari
1 day includes:

  • 4 hours surf trip
  • Transfers to different surf spots (depending on the weather and swell conditions)
  • All surf equipment during classes (surf board, wetsuit, rash guard)
  • Picnic snack on the beach (fruit and water)
  • Certified surf instructors (FES)
  • Low student/instructor ratio - Maximum 5 students per instructor
  • Insurance during classes (civil liability and personal accidents)
  • Quicksilver or Roxy student's card (only 5 days or more)
  • Use of the school’s facilities (lockers, toilets, showers, …)
  • Spanish and English spoken
  • Lots of barrels & fun!

You can start surf lessons any day of the week and for any number of days. If you wish you can take a break in between surf course days

The duration is 4 hours from departure till return to the school.
The schedule will be defined depending on the tides and weather conditions.
Sessions will be held on the best spots available.

Surf School Las Palmas The surf school in Las Palmas is based at "Playa de las Canteras" the most touristy area of Gran Canaria, perfect location to add some surfing to your holidays in the Canary Isles.

Take the first steps into this wonderful sport on one of Europe's most famous surf spots. Longtime experience and continuous improvement of our teaching methods will guarantee your success.
Located on the North of Gran Canaria where the best surf is, the surf school offers daily surf classes for all levels at one of the best and safest surf spots for lessons and training: Las Canteras is the only beach break without dangerous rocks close the center of Las Palmas.

Our team of surf instructors is highly qualified with many years of teaching and surf experience. All surf instructors are certified by the Spanish Surfing Association (Federation Española de Surf - FES). English an Spanish spoken. Additional video analysis (available for intermediate level courses) and personal coaching will help you to have a maximum learning success.

The surf school is open everyday! You can start any day of the week, weekends included, and take as many days surf classes as you wish, in group or private surf sessions.

Surf Course Levels

Surf school participants are divided into different groups according to their level: initiation, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Instructors work with small groups of students – no more than 6 students per instructor – teaching not only the basics but also advanced levels of surfing and focus on individual correction and supervising.
Please read below the requirments for each level.

LEVEL 0 | Initiation Courses | Surf School

    Beginner Surf Course
  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • Never surfed before or surfed less than a 10 hours initiation course.

LEVEL 1 | Beginner Surf Courses | Surf School

    Beginner Surf Course
  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course of at least 10 hours in the previous six months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules.
  • Basic theoretical knowledge of the equipment and of the marine environment.
  • To be able to get to your feet correctly in whitewater on a softboard, maintain a relaxed posture and reach the shore without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with small waves (up to waist height).

LEVEL 2 | Intermediate Surf Courses | Surf Clinic

    Improver Surf Courses
  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course and a beginners course of 10 hours.
  • To have surfed a minimum of 50 hours in the last six months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules and the rules for coexistence in the water.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the equipment and of the marine environment.
  • To be physically fit enough to cope with a session of an hour and a half with medium waves up to chest height).
  • To paddle while remaining in the centre of an epoxy evolutive board, with chest slightly raised and legs together.
  • To be capable of reaching the breaker, avoiding the whitewater by means of the technique known as the turtle roll.
  • To be capable of catching waves without help.
  • To be able to get to your feet correctly in small waves (up to waist height) and to be capable of surfing waves without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with medium waves (up to chest height).

LEVEL 3 | Advanced Surfers | Surfaris

    Surf guidance for advanced surfers
  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course, a beginners course, and an intermediate course of 10 hours.
  • To have surfed a minimum of 100 hours in the last 12 months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules and the rules for coexistence in the water.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the equipment, of the marine environment, of the types of waves and of weather forecasts.
  • To be physically fit enough to cope with a session of two hours with big waves (over head height).
    To paddle powerfully and swiftly on a shortboard.
  • To be able to reach a breaker, avoiding the whitewater by means of the technique known as the duck dive.
  • Good wave reading and correct timing when rowing the waves.
  • To be able to get to your feet perfectly in medium waves (up to chest height).
  • To maintain an attacking position on the board and to be capable of crossing the wave without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with big waves (over head height).
