Weather & Waves in Fuerteventura

Like its neighbouring Canary Islands, Lanzarote has mild and pleasant weather throughout the year. Air temperature varies very little as the thermometer shows mid twenties during summer months and down to 16ºC in winter (60.8ºF). There is a distinction between the summer and winter months, but extreme temperatures are rare.

Average water temperature can reach 21ºC (69.8ºF) in the summer months, dropping down to 14ºC (57.2ºF) during the winter months but still remaining more than tolerable for a swim!

If you can avoid the peak summer crowds of July and August, May/June and September/October are an ideal time to visit the island. The weather is great, not too hot, less windy and less crowded!

We have waves all year round! If you are an intermediate/experienced surfer, the best season is from September to April, but there are always safe sheltered spots for beginners even in the peak of winter. Please find more info about best Lanzarote waves here.

The closest surf spot is the local Famara beach!
On the northwest coast of Lanzarote, there are a couple other spots within walking distance (San Juan, El Muelle...) and the amazing spots in La Santa just 12 km away (advanced surfers only!). On the other side of the islands, there are also some spots that can produce good surf when the swell hits that part of the island.
You can read the full info about the best surf spots and waves in Lanzarote here.

Every spot has some rips, the sand banks are always changing thus making the rips. But don't worry, you will surf at the safest spots and always under supervision!

Although there are waves all year long, if you are an experienced surfer, the best season for a surf trip in Lanzarote is from September to May. If you are a novice join our surf camp and we will take you to the best surf spots according to your level. It's important to pick the surf spot carefully as some of the waves are unforgiving.
Please find more info about the surf spots in Famara area here.
